The devastation in Western North Carolina is all I can think about lately. With family in Tryon (who are safe, thank God), it’s always top of mind. And reading and seeing story after story of heartbreak and loss on social media can leave everyone feeling helpless. The Scoop has been sharing any info we can find in regard to rescue efforts and there is hope in the fact that so many are selflessly doing so much to help. From emergency personnel to small local businesses, donation drives and rescue efforts are in full swing and will need to be for the foreseeable future. We have found a few reliable sources of information to turn to in the event that you are looking for more information. If you can’t donate, share a reliable fundraising post on social media, talk to others about ways they can help and just be kind when you have the opportunity to do so. You never know what a stranger has on their mind today. Let’s take care of each other.

Operation Airdrop is a Texas based 501(c)(3) non-profit that organizes general aviation assets in the aftermath of a natural disaster. Founded in the wake of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, we specialize in post Atlantic hurricane flooding recovery. Operations Airdrop’s facebook page is an excellent resource for updates on supply delivery and collection. Many local drop spots for donations can be found there along with updates on collection times and status.

The North Carolina Weather Authority Facebook page was started by Ethan Clark when he was in 7th grade. Now a NC State student, he still runs the page on his own and posts some of the most reliable, educated (non-hyped) weather and safety information in the country. With over a half million followers, he is committed to keeping the page as updated as possible even though he is still writing papers and taking exams like a normal college student. Feedback on his page includes comments and messages from viewers boasting that he saved their lives with his weather predictions. He is not quick to take the title of life saving weather professional but he is committed to helping as many people as possible and we think he’s pretty amazing. Jr. Hurricanes Youth Hockey Donation Drive

The Jr. Hurricanes girls hockey teams have coordinated a donation drive that runs through this Friday. Items listed above can be dropped at the Invisalign Arena on Competition Drive in Morrisville, NC during normal business hours. Coach Philip Tabor has teamed up with Terrahawk Civil Contractors to organize transportation of the donations and they are in contact with local authorities to ensure safe delivery.
The Junior Hurricanes Youth Hockey Organization is a member-led non-profit organization, “our priorities are what's right for the game and what's best for our athletes.
