Local Artist Rachel Castaneda Transforms Apex with Murals, Finds Success Through Community Connections

Rachel Castaneda, a former teacher turned full-time muralist, has made a colorful impact in the town of Apex. Recently featured on the Level Up Artists podcast, Rachel shared her inspiring journey from the classroom to the streets—where her vibrant murals now bring joy and creativity to the community.

After moving to Apex, Rachel started painting murals while continuing her role as a teacher. Her connection to the town grew when she joined the Apex Chamber of Commerce, which played a pivotal role in the growth of her mural business. Thanks to her involvement with the Chamber and consistent networking, Rachel experienced such an increase in demand for her art that she made the decision to pursue her business full-time. One key moment in her journey was meeting the mayor of Apex in a local coffee shop, where she boldly handed him her business card. That encounter led to one of her biggest projects to date, and included a portrait of Mayor Jacques Gilbert, himself!

Rachel's story is a testament to the strength and support of the Apex community, and how local businesses can thrive by making connections.

Hey, aspiring movie stars!!! Netflix’s The Waterfront Begins Filming in Wilmington, NC, Casting Paid Extras

Netflix's new series The Waterfront, inspired by true events about a family and their fishing business, is set to start filming in Wilmington, NC this week. Starring Maria Bello and Holt McCallany, the show is written and executive produced by Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williamson. If you’ve never heard of Dawson’s Creek, it was the show where moody teens philosophized about life, love, and way too much existential angst while looking like Abercrombie models, long before Netflix made it cool to be brooding and dramatic.

TW Cast and Recruit is seeking paid extras of all ages and ethnicities, with roles available from now until mid-to-late December. Extras will be paid $96 for up to 8 hours, with time and a half for additional hours. There are also opportunities for higher-paying roles.

Interested applicants can find casting calls on TW Cast and Recruit’s Facebook page or register in the company’s talent database.

Approved applicants will receive filming details and call times the afternoon before each shoot, with call times as early as 5 a.m. and some days potentially lasting over 12 hours.
