What happens when a one burger joint gets BIGGER and the other is still a family owned locally beloved spot? Nothing good.
The Texas Whataburger chain of restaurants was once a local family owned burger joint until they weren’t. The North Carolina What-A-Burger #13 restaurant is still a small family owned burger place that is loved by loyal locals. The two were operating under an agreement that the NC stores could continue to operate up until 2022. When Whataburger sold to private equity and expanded, the agreement was terminated and plans to expand to North Carolina came shortly thereafter. The North Carolina mom and pop burger shop can be found at 8330 W Franklin St, Mt Pleasant, NC 28124 and as of now, has no plans to change their name even though Whataburger continues their pursuit of a cease and desist.

The application period for Fall 2024 Cohort 8 is now open! The application will close July 16th, 2024.

• Must be a resident or own a business in Apex

• Must have the ability to supply product(s) or service(s) that can generate profit

• Franchises are not eligible. A non-profit’s eligibility will be determined at the discretion of the LaunchAPEX Program

• Must have opened a business or prove serious efforts of opening one

• Demonstrate need for business resources

• Must apply and be interviewed by selection committee

• Must be owner of the business. If multiple owners, all must participate in program
