❤️ Focused on What's Important
We are changing the mission of the Scoop! Open to find out what we are up to!

❤️ It’s time to change things up to help our Western NC neighbors
What are we doing?
How We Started
The Scoop started in July and the goal was to promote local businesses and events in Apex, NC and the surrounding communities. You probably know that there are a lot of pages and influencers that do that a lot already. Awesome people like DowntownApexNC, Raleigh Family Adventure, Triangle Families Explore and Positively Apex are posting multiple times a day and covering all of the fun stuff happening in the Triangle. So while we love talking about and attending all of the fun events and shopping at our local businesses (which we will continue to do, of course!!), maybe we don’t need to be another source of local events and shopping.
As the Scoop has evolved and we got to know our audience we were consistently evaluating everything in hopes to figure out our purpose and next steps. The goal of this newsletter was always to promote small businesses. There was never an intention to make money from it and there still isn’t. As a marketing consultant, I wanted to test the platform and see how it worked so I could teach other people how to do it for their own business or cause.
What Now?
There is complete and utter devastation Western NC. This morning, CBS 17 reported that it was announced that Interstate 40 “from the state line til about mile marker 4, 4 and a half, there are three different long sections that have essentially fallen into the river,” said David Uchiyama, Western Communications Manager with NCDOT. “I-40 is going to be indefinitely closed for the foreseeable future.” While rescue efforts are still underway, it’s very clear that Western North Carolina is going to need help for years.
Our goal is to be a part of the help. The Scoop is committed to focusing on two things going forward. We will showcase businesses in Western NC that are still operating. Small businesses that are open, shipping product, providing online services will be featured weekly in the Scoop. Also, small businesses that are supporting Western North Carolina rescue and rebuild efforts will also be featured. We want to grow our subscriber list and keep it going well beyond the holidays. We want to offer giveaways and discounts so we are your go-to source of all things small business for good! We are going to keep the local events section for now and work on the best way to change that up if necessary.
Black Friday is only 56 days away. The holiday shopping season will kick off and life will be busy with shopping, planning and celebrating. Big retailers will have big sales and discounts and gift lists will be checked off. The Scoop wants to challenge you to find ways to gift from small businesses that are either located in WNC or are continuing to support rescue and rebuild efforts in WNC. The recovery is going to take years and the needs will go far beyond toilet paper. That challenge comes with help from us in identifying where to shop and eat and have fun for good!
Will The Scoop Still Be FREE?
YES! The Scoop will remain free for subscribers and for businesses that are featured and advertised. You may see ads in the Scoop. These come from the Beehiiv platform and we place them in the newsletter to help cover the cost of sending this out. When you click on the ads, we get revenue. It’s a cool way to cover costs without asking small businesses to pay for features or promotions! The ads come to us and ask to be placed in our newsletter (see below) and we get to say yes or no. So, if you want to click on a Scoop ad, that would be awesome. If you want to create a newsletter like this one and have access to the same kind of ad revenue, click here to learn more or reply to this email and I will answer any questions you may have!
